6th April

Damp and dreary conditions to begin and end the day were at least punctuated by a spell of fairer weather in the middle when it was possible to get amongst a few migrants on land and sea. There were certainly new arrivals on the land, even if the numbers were nothing special, with the scatter of phylloscs and Blackcaps including in their midst singles of Redstart and Ring Ouzel at the Bill and Black Redstart at Reap Lane; Swallows trickled through overhead and a Little Egret also arrived in/off at the Bill. With the south-westerly gaining some strength as the day went on seawatching at the Bill came up with 21 Manx Shearwaters, 14 Red-throated Divers, 8 Sandwich Terns, 7 Common Scoter, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 Arctic Skuas and 2 Great Northern Divers. The Iceland Gull remained at Ferrybridge for another day.
